Origin: North Carolina, Florida, Gulf of Mexico
While the name "Hogfish" includes the term "snapper," Hogfish or Hog Snapper is not a true snapper species. It belongs to the family Labridae, also known as the wrasses. Despite this distinction, Hogfish are often referred to as "Hog Snapper" due to their popularity and similarity in appearance to true snapper species.
Hogfish are often found in shallow reefs and rocky areas, where they feed on crustaceans and mollusks. They are prized by anglers and seafood enthusiasts for their firm texture and sweet, mild flavor.
This catch can be served grilled, baked, broiled, or pan-fried. Great spices to accompany Snapper include lemon, pepper (white or black), sea salt, garlic, and even Thai spices.
